SEMANTICS ANALYSIS OF CONTEXTUAL MEANING IN PART OF YOUR WORLD’S SONG LYRICS

Abstract

This research investigates the contextual meaning in the lyrics of Part of Your World song from The Little Mermaid movie. This research specifically analyzes the types of contextual meaning by using the theory from John Lyons. Descriptive qualitative was employed as the research method in accordance to research analysis. The result of this research exposed that there were five types of contextual meaning found in the lyrics of Part of Your World song; (1) context of person, (2) context of place, (3) context of time, (4) context of mood, and (5) context of subject-matter. In addition, the meaning found shows that the Part of Your World song tells about the storyline of The Little Mermaid movie where the main character of the movie, Ariel the little mermaid has a dream to be able to live in the human world.
